Hawks Come Up Short Against Defiance

Port Charlotte, Fla.- Becker College dropped a 4-3 decision to Defiance College in men's baseball action.
The Hawks jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a Ryan Sczerbinski RBI single. The Yellow Jackets answered back in the bottom of the 2nd inning. After two walks and a hit batsman, Michael Dushane drove in two runs with an RBI single. Defiance then executed a double steal, making the score 3-1.
Defiance added another run with two outs in the bottom of the 5th inning. With two on and two out, Bradley Ritter ripped an RBI single in left field, putting the Yellow Jackets up 4-1.
In the top of the 7th inning, Becker began to chip away at the Defiance lead. Geoff Sinnott Jr started things off with a one single to right field. After Sinnott made his way to third base on a wild pitch and a fielder's choice, Jario Valdez roped an RBI single past the dive of the Defiance short stop.
With Becker trailing 4-2 in the top of the 9th inning, the Hawks put themselves in position to tie the game. Geoff Sinnott Jr started the inning with a single to right field. Once again, Sinnott made his way over to 3rd base on a wild pitch and a fielder's choice. Much like the 7th inning, Jario Valdez came through in the clutch with a two out RBI single, making the score 4-3. Joe Corey followed with a single through the right side, pushing Valdez over to third. The Hawks had men on 1st and 3rd, when they attempted a double steal. Joe Corey was tagged out at 2nd base by Levi Pauli to end the game.
Aaron Sayad pitched just two innings, allowing 3 runs, on 1 hit, to earn the loss. Cody Carlson and Cody Harmes combined for 8 innings of solid relief, allowing just 1 run, on 3 hits. Becker fell to 1-4 on the season.
