Hawks Rally Past Defiance

Port Charlotte, Fla.- Becker rallied from a 5-2 deficit to defeat Defiance College 10-6 in men's baseball action.
The Hawks trailed 5-2 going into the bottom of the 4th inning, before scoring 6 runs. After Geoff Sinnott Jr walked and Jim Ceglarek reached on an error, Jairo Valdez ripped an RBI singled through the left side, cutting the Yellow Jacket lead to 6-3. Joe Corey then drove in 2 runs with a single into left field, putting the Hawks within one. With the bases loaded and two out, Frank Vaccaro cleared the bases with a double to center field, putting the Hawks ahead 8-5.
Defiance added one more run in the top of the 6th on a Kirk Jesse RBI double. The Hawks added 2 insurance runs in the top of the 8th on a pair of RBI singles from Geoff Sinnott and Jairo Valdez.
Freshman Cody Harmes pitched 6 1/3 innings of relief, allowing just 1 run on 6 hits, to earn his first collegiate win. Becker improved to 3-4 on the season. The Hawks will complete their southern trip with a 3 PM tilt with Carthage College.
