Becker Celebrates Class of 2009 At Inaugural Senior Awards Dinner

Leicester, MA - Becker College athletic director Frank Millerick hosted the Inaugural Senior Athletic Awards Dinner at the Leicester Country Club on Sunday May 3rd. The night honored Becker's 34 senior athletes.
A total of five senior athletes were selected for individual awards. Men's soccer senior Dircilino DeBrito (New Bedford, Mass) was named the Male Athlete of the Year, while women's basketball standout Beth Pion (Enfield, Conn) was named Female Athlete of the Year. Allison Flynn (Wilmington, Mass) was named Scholar Athlete of the Year. Senior field hockey and women's basketball player Ciara Lawrence (Costa Mesa, Calif) and senior football and men's lacrosse player Gary Clark (Glastonbury, Conn) were the recipients of the second annual Gene Alley Award.
DeBrito was named Male Athlete of the Year after leading the Hawks to the inaugural NECC soccer championship. DeBrito is second all time for goals in a career at Becker (37). During the 2008 season DeBrito earned First Team All-NECC, NECC Tournament MVP and team MVP.
Beth Pion earned Female Athlete of the Year honors after leading the Lady Hawks basketball team with 434 points. Pion is now the all time leading scorer in Becker College women's basketball with 1,625 career points. Pion was selected First Team All NECC during the 2008-09 season.
Allison Flynn earned the Scholar Athlete of the Year after posting
a brilliant career on the tennis court and in the classroom. During
her career at Becker, Allison won First Team All NAC and NAC Player
of the Year in 2006. In 2007 Allison was selected First Team All
NAC and was name to the NAC All-Academic Team. During this past
season Allison was named to the First Team All NECC Singles Team
and the NECC All-Academic Team.
Ciara Lawrence earned the Gene Alley Award after her dedication to
the field hockey and women's basketball teams. Ciara was named the
NECC Goalkeeper of the Year and First Team All NECC during the 2008
season. Ciara also holds the school record for saves in a game
(25).
Gary Clark was also awarded the Gene Alley Award for his
dedication to the football and men's lacrosse teams. Gary finished
his career third on the team in tackles. Gary was selected to the
All-Worcester Team for the 2008 season. Gary was also named the
Hawks defensive MVP for the 2008 season.
