Field Hockey Falls to Saint Joseph's College
Leicester, Mass.- The Becker College Hawks fell to the Monks of Saint Joseph's College 4-1 in College Field Hockey action today.
Saint Joseph's scored first when Julia Ostrowski (Albany, NY) centered the ball to Kayla Nowell (Bridgton, ME), for the early 1-0 lead. The Hawks answered back with 55 seconds remaining in the first half. Victoria Sirchia (Goshen, CT) blasted a pass from Jessica Provencher (Berwick, ME) into the back of the net, tying the game at 1-1.
The second half belonged to the Monks. Julia Ostrowski passed a penalty corner to Jillian Kimball (Albany Township, ME), who slapped it past Becker goalkeeper Ciara Lawrence (Costa Mesa, CA), for the 2-1 lead. The Monks added to their lead when Gina Gaetani (Auburn, ME) redirected a shot into the net, for the 3-1 advantage. Julia Ostrowski got her third assist of the game, as she fed Alyssa McCarthy (Westbrook, ME) for the 4-1 final.
Ciara Lawrence made 12 saves in a losing effort. The Hawks (8-9) will try and lock up the number one seed in the conference tournament when they travel to Daniel Webster on Thursday afternoon. Taylor Allison (Pawtucket, RI) made 3 saves to earn the win. The Monks (10-4) will host Simmons College on Saturday.
