Field Hockey Shuts Down Blazers

Leicester, Mass.- Sophomore midfielder Victoria Sirchia (Goshen, CT) scored two goals as the Becker College Lady Hawks rolled to a 4-0 shutout victory over the Elms College Blazers in New England Collegiate Conference women's field hockey action.

Becker (2-5, 1-0 NECC) jumped on Elms College (1-4, 0-1 NECC) when junior Kayla Messina (Somerville, Mass.) scored an unassisted goal at the twenty fourth minute of the first half.

The Lady Hawks put the game out of reach during a seven minute stretch in the second half when Sirchia sandwiched her two goals around Morgan Gass' (Avon, CT) first collegiate tally.

Becker's stalwart defense held the Blazers' to no shots in the game as junior Nakita Gosselin (Springfield, VT) picked up her first collegiate shutout. Elms keeper Alexandra Bonavita (Agawam, Mass) had 13 saves in the loss.

The Hawks return to action on Tuesday September 22 when they host Wheelock College at 4:00pm.
