Field Hockey Drops 5-0 Decision To Clark

Worcester, Mass. - Behind two goals and an assist each from senior Lauren Blake (Oakland, Maine) and freshman Mel Melkonian (Worcester, Mass.), the Clark University field hockey team snapped out of its recent offensive lull to post a convincing 5-0 win over visiting Becker College on Saturday afternoon on Granger Field.
The Cougars, who scored four goals in their season opening win over Worcester State back on September 5, had scored just two goals in their last two games - both 2-1 losses. Saturday, however, was a different story as Clark scored its most goals in nearly a calendar year.
Blake got the offense going quickly, finding the back of the cage just 14 minutes into the matchup. She notched her sixth goal of the season 11 minutes later when she scored off of a penalty corner with help from freshman Madeleine Lutts (Salem, Mass.).
Less than two minutes later, the Cougars were back on the board again, this time sophomore Meghan Lennon (Charlton, Mass.) scoring an unassisted goal off of another penalty corner to give Clark a 3-0 lead at intermission.
The Cougars eliminated any thoughts of a comeback when Melkonian deposited her second goal of the season five minutes into the second half. She tacked on another at the 53:30 mark to give Clark a 5-0 lead.
Not to be overshadowed in the offensive display, is the effort of the Cougar defense who didn't allow the Hawks to attempt a single shot, while Clark peppered Becker netminder Jordan Godin with 21 shots, forcing her to make 10 saves.
