Daniel Webster Tops Becker

Nashua, N.H. - Senior Brian Inge (Fort Washington, Md.) knocked down a game high 27 points including four three-pointers and went 11 of 12 from the free throw line guiding the Daniel Webster College men's basketball team past Becker College, 77-66 in a New England Collegiate Conference matchup Saturday at Mario Vagge Gymnasium.

Sophomore Chris Hanson (Salem, Mass.) added 17 points with another four from beyond the arc, and rookie William Kemp Harris (Suitland, Md.) notched 11 as the Eagles (8-4, 2-2 NECC) won their fifth straight, the longest winning streak for the program since 1999.

Further, the eight victories surpassed last year's season total of seven and marked the most for the program since the same 1998-99 season when the Eagles went 9-16.

Sophomore Steve Savage (Salem, N.H.) added nine points off the bench for the winners.

Senior Travis Suber (Springfield, Mass.) led Becker (7-5, 1-2 NECC) with 18 points and seven rebounds. Sophomores Trey Jacobs (Lexington Park, Md.) notched 15 points and eight boards, D.J. Exum (New London, Conn.) notched 16 points, and freshman Terrance Favors (Boston, Mass.) hit for 10 points and a game high nine boards.

Daniel Webster emerged victorious despite being heavily outrebounded (42-33), particularly in the first half as the Hawks held a 25-16 advantage. But the Eagle defense helped force 22 turnovers, committing just 13 of their own, leading to a decisive 24-8 points differential in that category.

Both teams struggled to find a rhythm in the opening stanza, combining for just 19 field goals. The Eagles led 32-25 at the break.

Becker opened the second with a 12-2 run consuming 2:08 keyed by a three-point play and a three-pointer from Exum.

But the Eagles answered with a jumper from Joel Prince (Woodbridge, Va.) and a trey from Inge to regain the lead.

Tied at 63, Hanson drained a huge three with 2:33 remaining sparking a devastating 11-0 run over 1:17 as Becker missed four straight shots while Inge went 4 for 4 at the line. Harris added a big layup inside with 1:05 to go to help seal the victory.

The Eagles head back out on the road for their next three beginning with a visit to old GNAC rival Southern Vermont in a NECC matchup Saturday at 3:00 p.m.

Becker visits Wheelock Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
