Hawks Ready For Final Four

Leicester, Mass.- As the Becker men's basketball team gets ready for their New England Collegiate Conference quarterfinal match up with Daniel Webster, it's hard to believe they are two seasons removed from a dismal 3-22 season. Over the past two seasons the Hawks have made gigantic strides towards becoming a perennial winner. The biggest change came when Becker alumnus Brian Gorman took over as head coach. In Gorman's first season, he helped improve the Hawks record by 10 wins. Not only did the Hawks make it to the North Atlantic Conference playoffs, they also won their first round match up versus Maine Maritime 74-61.
This season the Hawks continued to make drastic improvements. Becker broke a NCAA school record for wins, with 18. At the end of the 2007-08 regular season the Hawks had a winning percentage of .481, one year later their winning percentage stands at .720. Along with a great coaching staff, the Hawks are made up of some outstanding athletes. Just 49 games into his career at Becker, guard Travis Suber scored his 1,000th career point. Sophomores DeJohn Exum and Trey Jacobs have combined for 636 points. Freshman Terrance Favors has played a huge role in the Hawks success this season, scoring 277 points. Favors has averaged a team best 6.3 rebounds per game.
The Hawks have earned their share of awards for the 2008-09 season. Travis Suber was not only selected 1st team All-Conference, but he took home the NECC Player of the Year honor as well. Terrance Favors was rewarded for his efforts by being selected as the NECC Rookie of the Year. Sophomores Trey Jacobs and DeJohn Exum were selected 2nd Team All- Conference.
