Men's Basketball Outlasts Newbury

Senior Nighthawk Walky Magloire (Waltham, MA/Waltham) finished the night a perfect 8-8 from the field and 6-6 from the free throw line; but his 22 points would not be enough to stifle the Becker starters who combined for all 78 of the Hawks' points. With the loss (78-62), Newbury drops to 4-8 in conference play, while Becker improves to 9-3.
In the first half, the Nighthawks beat the Hawks in most offensive categories - Newbury shot 46.2% from the field compared to Becker's 36.7%, ripped down 19 rebounds to the Hawks' 18 and dished out ten assists, while Becker only accumulated seven. The Nighthawks' downfall, however, came from their 13 turnovers. Becker only committed eight before the break, in addition to going 7-11 from the charity stripe. It was looking like the Nighthawks would be heading into the locker room down by four, but freshman Robert Foley (Wethersfield, CT/Wethersfield) banked a miracle half-court shot with less than two seconds remaining to cut the deficit to one.
Turnovers, again, proved fatal for Newbury in the second half as they racked up 14 to Becker's four. The Hawks were able to score 19 points off turnovers led by senior Travis Suber (Springfield, MA/Longmeadow) who scored 11 points and recorded four assists as well as four steals after halftime. Teammate Terrance Favors (Boston, MA/Bedford) put up 15 of his team-high 22 points in the second half, combined with five assists and two steals of his own.
In addition to Magloire's stellar performance, Newbury received solid efforts from Somerville natives Samuel Stanford (Somerville, MA/Somerville) who finished with nine assists and Paul Beckford Jr. (Somerville, MA/Somerville) who added ten points and seven rebounds.
