Hawks Sweep Past Southern Vermont


BENNINGTON, Vt. - The Southern Vermont men's basketball team did not hold a lead the entire game but stayed with the Becker College Hawks for a solid 40 minutes Saturday at the SVC Field House in a 84-72 loss. Joe Karnik led SVC playing a solid game with 24 points, 18 rebounds, four blocks, and shot 12-15 from the line for the Mountaineers who's NECC playoff hopes come to an end.

Becker improved to 18-7 overall and 11-3 in Conference play; while Southern Vermont fell to 7-18 overall and 4-10 in the NECC. SVC was vying for the last spot in the playoffs but needed to beat Becker to clinch it.

Brendan Kordana posted solid numbers with 17 points and six which coming from behind the arc. The Mountaineer freshmen trio of Jaret Falkowitz, Ben Naaktgeboren, and Cam Herrington helped keep the Mountaineers momentum going throughout the contest.

Falkowitz finished with 13 points and four assists for SVC. Herrington had 10 points, 5 rebounds while Naaktgeboren had 6 points and pulled down 11 rebounds respectively.

The Hawks were led by Rajai Leggett who had 20 points and Trey Jacobs game high 25 points.
