Hawks Squeak Past Wheelock

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Four players hit double-digits and Sophomore Trey Jacobs (Lexington Park, MD) scored a game-high 26 points as Becker College stretched its winning streak to six games with an 80-77 victory over host Wheelock College.

For the first 28 minutes of play, it looked like Wheelock might pull off the upset against the second place team in the NECC, but Becker put together a 12-4 run in the last ten minutes of play to take a lead they would never relinquish. The Wildcats pulled within three with 15 seconds remaining on a Kyle Pierce (Burlington, MA) layup, but Dan Main's (Hopedale, MA) three point attempt rattled in and out to end the game.

Main scored a team-high 23 points while Pierce was also in double figures with 14 points, including a perfect 10 for 10 night from the charity stripe. Junior captain Sherard Robbins (Malden, MA) turned in another double-double performance for Wheelock, with 11 boards and 11 points on the night.

For Becker, Sophomore D.J. Exum (New London, CT) was 6-11 from the field and 4-7 from behind the arc for 20 points, while Travis Suber (Springfield, MA) and Rajai Leggett (New Haven, CT) scored 14 and 11 points, respectively.

The win improves Becker's overall record to 13-5 and 6-2 in the NECC, while Wheelock falls to 5-14 and 3-5 in the conference. The Wildcats next host Daniel Webster College Saturday afternoon, while Becker travels to Lesley University on Saturday.
