Golf Places Sixth In Blazer Invitational


CHICOPEE, MA - Anna Maria golfer Nate McNamara (Leicester, MA) shot a one-over par 72 to earn top individual honors, while Westfield State earned a combined score of 319 to claim team honors at the second Blazers Invitational hosted by Elms College at Chicopee Country Club on Wednesday.

McNamara shot a two-under par 34 on the front nine and followed that with a 38 on the back nine to lead all scorers in Wednesday's invitational. Westfield State's Derek Robichaud (Foxboro, MA) finished second overall with a round of 74, while Bobby Greggerson (Seekonk, MA) carded a 77 to claim third place.

Both Brett Williamson (Ludlow, MA) and Dan Korpita (Southampton, MA) shot solid rounds of 79 and 80 respectively to each place in the top 10 and lift Westfield State to a 319 team score. 

Rhode Island College had all four of its scoring golfers place in the top 20 for the day to finish second overall with a team score of 329. Anna Maria and Franklin Pierce tallied scores of 331 to earn a share of third place.

Springfield (334), Becker (336), MCLA (350), Elms (364) Emmanuel (367), Mitchell (367), Newbury (375) and Daniel Webster (383) rounded out the 12-team field.

Elms senior Andrew Sullivan (West Springfield, MA) carded a round of 83 for the day to lead the Blazers, while freshman David Pianki (West Suffield, CT) registered a score of 85. Both placed in the top 20 as Sullivan finished tied for 13th and Pianki in a tie for 18th place in the field of 59 golfers.
