Ice Hawks Clip Fitchburg State


Leicester, Mass.- Becker College defeated Fitchburg State 4-3 in ECAC Northeast men's hockey action.

Fitchburg got on the board 15:04 into the 1st period, when Bryan Canter (Anchorage, AK) took a feed from Chris Carney (Belmont, Mass.) and Kris Threlkeld (Centerville, Ohio), for his 3rd goal of the season. John Nogatch (Seattle, WA) tied the game for the Hawks on a power play. Nogatch took a feed from Patrick Bellew (Newington, Conn.) and Jared Kersner (Rockville, MO.) at the top of the point; he then ripped a slap shot past Fitchburg goalie Bobby Leiser (Monroe, NY).

Bryan Canter put the Falcons ahead again, when he scored his 2nd goal of the game. Becker answered back 53 seconds later when Mike Caprio (Valencia, Calif) notched his 5th goal of the season, tying the game at 2-2.

The Falcons regained their lead 1:41 into the 3rd period, when Andrew Hutton (Brewster, Mass.) scored his team leading 13th goal of the season. The Hawks tied the score for the 3rd time of the game when, Nate Sayer (Dracut, Mass.) and Jim Ceglarek (Chicago,IL) fed Patrick Bellew for a breakaway goal.

With the game tied at 3-3, Fitchburg took a costly penalty with 3:32 remaining in the game. Just 13 seconds into the power play Nate Sayer redirected a shot from John Notgatch into the net, sealing the win for the Hawks.

Fitchburg goalie Bobby Leiser made 19 saves in a losing effort. The Falcons fell to 7-7-4 overall. Becker goalie Tony Stoehr (DePere, WI) made 38 saves in a winning effort. The Hawks improved to 9-11 on the season.
