Ice Hawks Soar Past Suffolk
Marlboro , Mass.- Tony Stoehr (DePere, WI) made 30 saves, as the Becker Ice Hawks skated to their 3rd straight victory.
Suffolk got on the board first when Nick Sabo (Bell Canyon, CA) was set up by John Rocchio (East Greenwich, RI) and Paul Weisser (East Greenwich, RI), for the 1-0 lead. At 11:59 of the 2nd period Jared Kersner (Rockville, MO) took advantage of a power play, scoring his 6th goal of the season, tying the game at 1-1. Becker took their first lead of the game with 9 seconds remaining in the 2nd period when John Nogatch (Seattle, WA) ripped a shot past Suffolk goalkeeper Jeff Rose (Collinsville, CT).
Brian Murray (Manalapan, NJ) put the Ice Hawks ahead by two just 3:27 into the 3rd period. Murray took a feed from Rob Johnson (Fenton, MI) and Mike Caprio (Valencia, CA), to put Becker up 3-1. The Rams refused to go away, as Zach Scienzo (Concord, NH) scored his first goal of the season, putting Suffolk within one. Despite being on a power play for the final 1:31 of the game, Tony Stoehr and the Becker defense held their ground and came away with the 3-2 ECAC Northeast victory.
Suffolk goalkeeper Jeff Rose turned away 24 of 27 shots he faced in a losing effort. The Rams fell to 3-10-1 on the season. Becker goalkeeper Tony Stoehr was solid in net to help the Ice Hawks improve their record to 6-10 on the season. Becker is currently tied with Wentworth for 6th place in the ECAC Northeast. Becker will host a very impressive Curry College (11-3-1) on Wednesday night at the New England Sports Center.
