Ice Hawks Pick Up First W

Marlboro, Mass. - The Becker Hawks picked up their first win of the hockey season with a 3-1 defeat of Suffolk University in the consolation game of the Ice Breakers tournament at the New England Sports Center this afternoon.  The Hawks improve their record to 1-1 while Suffolk remains winless at 0-2.

Becker College junior Mike Caprio (Valencia, CA) put in the first goal of the game with a two on one break-a-way at 13:19 of the first period for his first goal of the season. Junior Jared Kersner (Rockville, MO) picked up the assist.

Freshman Nate Sayer (Dracut, MA) doubled the lead 5:52 into the second period, on a beautiful unassisted goal with a backhand cutting across the net. It was Sayer's first collegiate goal.

Chris Reily (Lexington, MA) scored the Hawks first power play goal of the season when he put in a rebound off of a blocked shot by a Suffolk defenseman.

Suffolk broke thru the score sheet and broke up the shutout with a goal by Kyle Cook (Chino Hills, CA) with just under ten minutes remaining in the third period.

Suffolk goaltender Bill Gilbert (Forestdale, MA) made 24 saves in the loss. Hawks netminder Jake Rosenthal (Wantagh, NY) had 25 saves in his first collegiate win.

The Hawks return to the ice on Wednesday, November 10th when they travel to UMass Dartmouth for a 7:30pm tilt.
