MEN'S SOCCER TAKES NECC TITLE

Leicester, Mass.- Becker College won the inaugural New England Collegiate Conference Men's Soccer Championship with a 4-1 win over Lesley University.
The Hawks scored 2:41into the game when Scott Medeiros (Assonet, Mass) headed a ball past Lesley goalkeeper Zach Almeida-Beers (Rehoboth, Mass). The Hawks made the score 2-0 when tournament MVP Dircilino DeBrito (New Bedford, Mass.) redirected a pass through a crowd and into the net. The Lynx cut the lead in half with just under three minutes remaining in the half. Tyler Reeves (Coventry, Conn) drove down the right wing and took a shot off the left post; which defected into the net.
The 2nd half started with a bombardment of Lesley shots, but Becker goalkeeper Aaron Fill (Delta, B.C) kept the Hawks ahead by one. The Hawks found some breathing room when Jeffrey Hurd (Melrose, Mass) made a pass between two defenders to lead Dircilino DeBrito on a breakaway goal. Samuel Adjei (Worcester, Mass) added an insurance goal in the 85th minute, to clinch the championship for Becker.
Zach Almeida-Beers made 4 saves in a losing effort. Following the game, Almeida-Beers was named to the New England Collegiate Conference All-Tournament Team. Lesley finished the season with a record of 6-13-1. Aaron Fill made 5 saves in a winning effort. Becker finished their championship season with a record of 11-8-1.
