Mens soccer drops 2-0 decision to Newbury
In their final home game of the season, the Newbury College men's soccer team honored their departing two seniors on Senior Day by defeating conference foe Becker College, 2-0. The shutout victory propelled the Nighthawks to their fifth conference victory. Seniors Hayato Iwahori (Tokyo Japan/Megura-Gakuin) and Nicholas Sehovich (Pelham, NH/Pelham) were acknowledged for their years of dedication to the men's soccer program.
When the match began the Nighthawks jumped on the board first, nine minutes into the contest. From the nearside of the field, freshman Shaundize Moosavizadeh (Winchester, MA/Winchester) found sophomore Andi Maska (Roslindale, MA/English) in front of the net for the 1-0 advantage. It remained that way until late in the match.
Freshman Alex Chappell (East Haddam, CT/Nathan Hale-Ray) added an insurance goal for the Nighthawks with 13 minutes left in the contest. Fellow freshman Hector Abudoj (Tequcigalpa, Honduras/American School of Tequcigalpa) found Chappell for their second goal of the game.
With the win, Newbury improves to 5-1 in the conference and 5-12 overall while Becker drops to 2-4 in the NECC and 3-15 overall. The Nighthawks will close out the regular season tomorrow, Saturday October 31, when they travel to Daniel Webster College to face the Eagles at 12:00pm.
