Men's Tennis Falls to Anna Maria

PAXTON, Mass. - The Anna Maria College men's tennis team defeated Becker College by a score of 7-2 to earn their first win in program history on Tuesday night at The Paxton Sports Centre. Freshmen Adam Williamson (Spencer, Mass.), Mike Dandurand (Warwick, R.I.), Haakim Ferguson (Boston, Mass.), and Joshua Proulx (Southbridge, Mass.) helped lead the AMCATS by winning both their singles and doubles matches.
The AMCATS started things off by taking four of the six singles matches. Ferguson defeated Snjezan Telbak (Chicago, Ill.) 7-6 in the first set before Telbak was forced to retire due to injury in the second set. Dandurand followed with a hard fought victory over BC's Tim Howard (Paxton, Mass.). After taking the first set 6-0 and dropping the second 6-7, Dandurand held on to win the tie-breaker 10-7. Williamson, who just last week became the first player in AMC history to win a match, defeated the Hawks' Jake Gilbert (Huntington Beach, Calif.) 6-2, 6-2. AMC's Joshua Proulx battled to a tie-breaker before topping Ralph Naval (Diamond Bar, Calif.) 6-3, 6-7, 10-5.
Becker's Charles Heard (Stratford, Conn.) won his singles match in convincing fashion, 6-1, 6-0. Peter Rota (Stockbridge, Mass.) also won his singles match for the Hawks, defeating AMC's Jesus Torres (Southbridge, Mass.) in a tough 1-6, 6-1, 11-9 victory.
The AMCATS went on to take all three doubles matches. Chris McCluskie (Warwick, R.I.) and Williamson defeated Heard and Telbak in a hard earned 9-7 win. The duo of Dandurand and Ferguson won their match 8-2 while Torres and Proulx combined for an 8-3 victory of their own.
The Hawks will play again on Thursday at Nichols College. The AMCATS will look to ride their momentum into their next match versus Curry College on Monday at The Paxton Sports Centre.
