Lady Hawks Split With Lyndon State


Leicester, Mass. - Becker College split a doubleheader with Lyndon State College 9-0 and 5-4 in non-conference women's softball action today at Russell Field. The Hawks' record improves to 2-16 and the Hornets are now 2-10.

Hawks freshman third basemen Jessica Lewis (Bellingham, MA) drove in the winning run with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Becker a 5-4 win over LSC in the second game.

Becker scored first in the bottom of the first when Felicia Laufer (Salem, CT) drove in Rachel Weidele (Woodbridge, NJ) with a double to right center field to take a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the second the Hawks had the bases loaded with one out. Lyndon State made a pitching change replacing Theresa Danforth (Corinth, VT) with Katelyn Willey (Lancaster, NH). Willey waked Laufer to score a run and Amanda Fogaren (Tewksbury, MA) had an infield single for an RBI giving the Hawks a 3-0 lead.  Junior Shannon Tibbetts (Warren, MA) led off the 4th inning with a double to centerfield. Fogaren picked up her second RBI of the day with a single up the middle to make it 4-0.

Lyndon State did all their damage in the top of the 5th inning. Junior Theresa Danforth (Corinth, VT) led off the inning with a single to left and Natalia Shams (Swampscott, MA) and Sara Fetterhoff (Jay, ME) both picked up walks. Sophomore Mary Gagne (Hightgate, VT) stepped to the plate a delivered a double to left field scoring two runs. Sarah Tucker (Fairfax, VT) then delivered an RBI single. Kathy Kline (Coventry, RI) brought home Gagne with a long single to center field.  

Sophomore Kristin Cammuso (Rutland, MA) pitched seven strong innings for the Hawks to register the win.

Lyndon State took game one 9-0. The jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, scoring their first run on a pass ball and the second on a sacrifice fly by Mary Gagne (Highgate, VT). They picked up a third run in the top of the second inning when Katelyn Willey (Lancaster, NH) scored on a wild pitch.

They doubled their lead in the third inning. Sara Tucker (Fairfax, VA) tripled with one out. Gagne then doubled in a run. Gagne scored on an overthrow by the catcher to third base. Michelle Wilcox (Enosburg, VT) scored the innings final run.

Six different Becker players had hits. Pitcher Jessica Lewis (Bellingham, MA) pitched five strong innings in the loss. Hornets' ace Sara Fetterhoff (Jay, ME) pitched the shutout.
