Softball: Hawks down Lancers in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. --- Playing 1200 miles from home, the Becker College softball team picked up their first win of the season on Tuesday, prevailing 3-1 over crosstown rival Worcester State University at the Spring Games in Clermont, Florida. Earlier in the day, the Hawks lost 11-5 to the Thunder of Wheaton College.

TOP HAWKS
• Freshman pitcher Ashley Veillette (Danielson, Conn. / Killingly) earned her first win as a Hawk against Worcester State, allowing just one run in seven innings. The rookie also hit two RBI singles in her own cause.
• Senior center fielder Samantha Belenchia (Ansonia, Conn. / Ansonia) tallied four hits on the day with an RBI double.
• Sophomore shortstop Sarah Ellis (Berkley, Mass. / Bristol County Agricultural) finished with three hits, including two that drove in runs.
• Senior outfielder Vasia Murphy (Dracut, Mass. / Dracut) went three-of-six at the plate, including two walks.
• Sophomore second baseman Alyssa Columb (Manchester, N.H. / Manchester Central) had two hits and scored two runs.

UP NEXT
The Hawks are back on the field on Thursday when they play the University of Southern Maine at 4:00 p.m.
