Bison Hand Lady Hawks First Loss


 Leicester, Mass. - Nichols College women's basketball sophomore guard Ashley Robidoux (Milford, MA) had a game high 26 points and 7 rebounds as the Bison defeated the Becker Hawks 90-47 at the Leicester Gymnasium in the season opener for both teams.

The game opened with both teams trading baskets and a tied 7-7 game four minutes in. After that it was all Bison. Nichols went on a 25-6 run over the next 10 minutes to hold a 32-13 edge and never looked back. Robidoux led Nichols with 17 first half points, while Jessica Nelson (North Providence, RI) and Andrea Ferris (Windsor, MA) chipped in eight and seven points, respectfully.  

Rachel Pinak (Cheektowaga, NY) led the Hawks in the first half with 4 points, 3 assists and a block.

The second half was much of the same with Nichols outscoring the Hawks 41-26. The Hawks shot 39% from the field while Nichols shot an astounding 51% for the game. Nichols caused 28 Becker turnovers while they only mishandled the ball 11 times.

The Hawks had three players in double figures; Beth Pion (Enfield, CT) had a team high 15 points, guard Shannon Tibbetts (Warren, MA) had 10 points and Pinak finished the game with 10 points.

Sophomore Michele Guerin (Chicopee, MA) had 17 points off the bench for the Bison and forward Nelson finished with 16 points.

The Lady Hawks return to action next Friday when they will play in the Gordon College Invitational. They have a first round match-up with Houghton at 1:00pm. Nichols College will host Keene State College on Tuesday night at 6:00pm.
