Lady Hawks Claw Past Bay Path
Leicester, Mass.- Becker College defeated Bay Path 63-58 in New England Collegiate Conference women's basketball action.
Becker quickly increased their slim one point halftime margin, by going on a 10-0 run to start the 2nd half. Courtney Fiske (Westfield, Mass.) went 7 for 11 from beyond the arch, as she led the Hawks with 21 points. Fiske went 5-7 from three point range in the 2nd half, as the Hawks went ahead by 22.
The Hawks were ahead by 20 points with 2:36 remaining, but the Wildcats refused to quit. After Becker emptied their bench, Bay Path threatened to the steal the game, as they went on 15-0 run to end the 2nd half. The Wildcats started their run by hitting three straight three pointers.
Despite the late game rush, the Hawks held on to improve their overall record to 11-9, 7-4 in the NECC. Beth Pion (Enfield, Conn.) earned a double-double, as she scored 11 points and brought down 13 rebounds. Rachel Pinak (Cheektowaga, NY) chipped in with 13 points in a winning effort.
Jessica Hunt (Madison, Conn.) led all scorers with 26 points and 17 rebounds, to earn a double-double. Christina Calabrese (Hamilton, NJ) added 11 points in a losing effort. Bay Path fell to 3-18 overall, 1-11 in the NECC.
NOTE: Courtney Fiske broke the Becker College women's basketball NCAA record for three pointers in a game with 7. The previous record was held by Liz Ortiz with 6.
