Women's Lacrosse Gets Clawed By Falcons

Leicester, Mass- Fitchburg State outscored Becker 8 to 4 in the 2nd half, in route to a 19-13 win in women's lacrosse action.
Tammy Mullen (Pottstown, PA) put the Hawks on the board first with her 100th goal of the season, just 1:47 into the game. The Falcons tied the score 27 seconds later when Amanda Burns (Weymouth, Mass) was set up by Emily Swan (Franklin, Mass). After Morgan Hazen (Woodstock, VT) put the Hawks ahead by 1, a Becker mishap resulted in an own goal, tying the game at 2-2. Tori D'Amato (Hampden, Mass) gave the Falcons their first lead of the game with an unassisted goal at 24:58. The two teams exchanged the goals one more time, before Becker ripped off 3 straight goals, to take a 6-4 lead. Emily Swan then scored back to back goals for the Falcons, tying the game for the 5th time in the half. After Renee Landry (Acton, ME) put the Hawks ahead 7-6, the Falcons deflected a pass into their own net, for the 2nd own goal of the game. Becker held and 8-6 advantage before Fitchburg came soaring back with 5 unanswered goals. Tammy Mullen finally broke through the Fitchburg defense for her 5th goal of the game, but Fitchburg took an 11-9 lead into halftime.
Kelly Finamore (Weymouth, Mass) put the Falcons up by 3 when she scored 2:01 into the 2nd half. Tammy Mullen answered back for the Hawks with her 105th goal of the season, putting the Hawks within 2. Morgan Hazen made things interesting when she scored on a free position shot, cutting the Falcon lead to just 1. That would be as close as Becker would get, as Fitchburg scored 6 unanswered goals to clinch the victory.
Tammy Mullen finished the day with 7 goals, one shy of tying an NCAA record for goals in a season. Morgan Hazen continued her outstanding freshman campaign with 4 goals. Alena Phongsa made 13 saves in a losing effort. The Hawks fell to 7-8 overall and 2-4 in the NEWLA.
Emily Swan carried Fitchburg with 4 goals. Kelly Finamore and Tori D'Amato chipped in with 3 goals each. The Falcons improved to 5-8 overall and 2-3 in the NEWLA.
