MULLEN SETS NCAA RECORD

CHESTNUT HILL, MA -  Entering the game with 106 scores, Becker College's sophomore midfielder Tammy Mullen broke the NCAA single-season goals record and led the Hawks to a 17-14 win over Pine Manor Monday evening.

Mullen (Pottstown, PA/Pottstown) finished with eight goals, breaking the former record of 107, set by Swathmore College's Julie Noyes in 1994.

Becker needed every one of her goals today, too. Leading 13-9 with 13:00 remaining, the Gators embarked on a 4-0 run in which all four of the Gators leading scorers netted goals. Beth Deegan (Philadelphia, PA/Little Flower) started the rally at the 12:20 mark, Stephanie Ludwig (Henniker, NH/John Stark) added her fourth goal of the game 22 seconds later on Molly Manley's pinpoint pass from behind the net, then Manley (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) got the Gators to within one less than a minute later with a goal of her own.

At the 8:33 mark, Elaine Rodriguez (Bronx, NY/Banana Kelly) tied the contest 13-13 with her team-leading 31st goal of the season. This day, however, belonged to Becker's newly-crowned scoring royalty, and with the game in the balance is when Mullen took over.

The sophomore scored three consecutive unanswered goals - the first of which gave her the NCAA record at the 8:03 mark - in under five minutes to distance the Hawks and ultimately send them on their way to victory. Her plus-strength score after a Cassie Acer yellow card put the Hawks up 16-13 at the 3:40 mark, and Samly Phonesavanh's team evened its record at 8-8.

For Pine Manor, which falls to 3-8, Angeline Capre (Dorchester, MA/Madison Park) made 12 saves in goal. Rodriguez finished with five goals, while Ludwig and Deegan added four and three, respectively.

Becker's Alena Phongsa (Putnam, CT/Putnam) got the win, making nine stops in net for the Hawks, which also got four goals from Nicole Lijana (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown).
