Women's Soccer Edges Past Newbury

The Becker College Hawks edged past the Newbury College Nighthawks by a score of 3-2 in a Women's Soccer match played today in Chestnut Hill, MA.  Becker improves to 4-9-1, while Newbury falls to 1-13

Newbury attacked first as Ashley Green-Allen (Brockton, MA/Brockton) found the back of the net off a crisp pass from Jessica Graus (Rochester, NY/Greece Arcadia) at 13:55.  The Nighthawks controlled the ball well but Becker's persistence paid off as they scored first half goals at 29:14 and 42:22 by Alena Phongsa (Putnam, CT/Putnam) and Catherine Millette (Columbia, CT/East Catholic), respectively.  Newbury responded just before the break as Graus found Rachel Wyszynski (Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug Regional) for a goal at 43:23 tying the score at two.

An energetic Newbury squad came out in the second half commanding the field of play.  Key contributions were made by Jessica Jordan (Stoneham, MA/Stoneham) and Holly Cloutier (Roxbury, VT/Harwood Union) who kept the momentum with the spirited Nighthawks for the majority of the game.  At 73:34, Becker's Alexandra Fernandes (Tucson, AZ/St. Gregory) scored off a quick pass by Caitlin North (Columbia, CT/Lyman Memorial) to go ahead 3-2.  Newbury strikers Graus, Green-Allen, and Wysznski kept the pressure on the Hawk defense but were unable to capitalize.
