Women's Soccer Soars into NECC Tournament
Leicester, Mass.-Becker College shutout Daniel Webster 4-0 in women's soccer action today.
Alena Phongsa (Putnam, CT) got the Hawks on the board when she headed an Ashley deFigueiredo (Dartmouth, MA) pass into the net. Alexandra Fernandes (Tucson, AZ) scored the Hawks 2nd goal less than 2 minutes later when she split the Daniel Webster defense, for a breakaway goal. Less than a minute later, Catherine Millette also snuck past the Daniel Webster defense for another breakaway goal.
The Hawks took a 3-0 lead into the 2nd half. In the 82nd minute Catherine Millette scored her 2nd goal of the game, securing the win for the Hawks.
Daniel Webster Goalkeeper Amy Waller (Berlin, MA) made five saves in a losing effort. Daniel Webster fell to 7-8 on the year and 5-3 in the New England Collegiate Conference. Becker goalkeeper Shannon Tibbetts (Warren, MA) made 4 saves, to earn her 2nd shutout of the season. Becker improved to 6-9-1 overall and 5-2 in the New England Collegiate Conference. Becker will host Mitchell College on Wednesday at 4pm in the first round of the NECC tournament. The Hawks will enter the tournament as the number three seed.
