Women's Soccer Defeats Southern Vermont In OT

BENNINGTON, Vt. - The Southern Vermont College women's soccer team nearly pulled off an NECC upset when they took the Becker College Hawks to overtime in the 1-0 loss Tuesday night at Everett Field. SVC Goalie Amber Mulhern played a solid game in the frame for the Mountaineers making 15 saves and LeAnn Healey led the offensive strike with three shots.
Both teams battled back and forth for a solid 96 minutes of play and Becker seemed to have the advantage most of the game as they outshot SVC 37-7 and had seven corner kicks while Southern Vermont only had one.
A Becker yellow card (one of two in the game) in the 76th minute of play set up Danielle Celotto for a scoring opportunity as she shot the ball just over the crossbar.
Ultimately Alexandra Fernandes scored the game winner for the Hawks in the 96th minute of play in overtime on an unassisted dart past Mulhern. Alena Phongsa got the win at goalkeeper for the Hawks as she had five saves.
Becker improved to 7-4 overall and 3-0 in the NECC (currently tied for first with Lesley) while the Mountaineers fall to 0-9 overall and 3-0 in Conference play.
