Volleyball Earns Split At Tri-Match


 

NEW LONDON, CONN.--Coast Guard extended its winning streak to five straight by sweeping a tri-match with easy 3-0 wins over Mass. Maritime and Becker.

The Bears (19-3) beat Mass. Maritime 25-3, 25-14, 25-12 in the first match of the day as sophomore Kiley Johnson had eight aces. In the first set, she served the Bears to 15 straight points.

Sophomore Katharine Martorelli and freshman Madeline Blackburn each had nine kills to lead the Bears while freshman Berit Jean Boyle led the way with 15 assists.

Junior Victoria Presutti led the Bucs with five kills while freshman Laura Basile had a team-high six digs in the loss.

Becker (9-12) beat Mass. Maritime 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-17) in the second match of the day. Freshman Julie Trcka led the Hawks with six kills, classmate Nicole Morse added five kills while junior Kelsea Laubenstein had 17 assists in the win.

Presutti led Mass. Maritime (0-20) with five kills and two aces.

 Coast Guard beat Becker 25-10, 25-6, 25-10 in the final match of the day as junior Ashley Bullard had seven aces in the win. Blackburn led the team with six kills while freshman Colleen McCue had five kills and five digs. Also for Coast Guard, Boyle led the way with 13 assists to go with her four kills.

Freshman Theresa Boulier led the Hawks with five blocks.
