Becker Baseball’s Season comes to an End at Lesley

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – The Becker College baseball team's season came to an end on Tuesday, as the Hawks dropped a New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) first round tournament game to the No. 3 seeded Lynx of Lesley College by a score of 8-2.

Lesley quickly put three runs up on the bottom of the first inning on four hits.  Javi Martinez (Chelsea, Mass.) plated Nicholas Ferragine (Randolph, N.J.) on a double to right field, and then two more runs came in on a Zach Rossi (Shrewsbury, Mass.) single for the 3-0 lead.

Two more Lesley runs were added to the board in the fifth on a two-run home run from Ryan Pumphret (Shrewsbury, Mass.).

The Lynx advanced the score to 8-0 in the sixth on three hits and two Becker fielding errors.  Two runs scored on a fielding error, and another scored on a Martinez RBI double to left field.

Becker broke the nil score in the top of the seventh.  Michael Bianco (Manorville, N.Y.) and Michael McMahon (Canton, Mass.) started the inning with back-to-back singles. Ben Mazzone (Bristol, Conn.) then hit home Bianco on a sacrifice fly to right field to spoil the shutout.

The Hawks wrapped up the scoring in the ninth when McMahon led off the inning with a solo homer to right field.  Willis Pollard (Worthington, Mass.) pinch hit in the inning and reached on a double, but a groundout and fly out ended the game with a score of 8-2.



  • The Hawks posted 11 hits in the setback.
  • Coby Hussey (Claremont, N.H.), Evan Barrera (West Warwick, R.I.) and McMahon each had two hits for the Blue and Gray.
  • Barrera, Kevin Santiago (New Bedford, Mass.) and Pollard each hit doubles on the occasion.
  • Becker's starting pitcher Payton Musco (Litchfield, N.H.) was tabbed with his third loss of the season in 2.2 innings pitched.  He allowed three runs on six hits.
  • The Hawks' relief pitcher, Daniel Diaz (Teaneck, N.J.) pitched the remaining 5.1 and allowed five runs, two earned, on seven hits.



  • The Lynx score their eight runs on 13 hits and two Becker errors.
  • Lesley's Pumphret batted 3-for-3 with two runs, two RBI and two walks.
  • Ferragine, Vincent Taliercio (Valley Stream, N.Y.), Martinez and Leo DiGuilio (Bradley Beach, N.J.) each had two hits for the Lynx.
  • Martinez, Pumphret and Rossi each batted in two runs.
  • Senior pitcher Daniel O'Donnell Jr. (Clark, N.J.) earned his fourth win of the season in a complete-game.  He allowed just two runs on 11 hits and struck out six batters.
