Baseball Drops Decision to Juniata, 10-5

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Becker College baseball team fell to the Juniata Eagles by a score of 10-5 Monday evening, as the Eagles scored their 10 runs on 12 hits and three Hawk errors.

 

THE BASICS

Juniata started early with two unearned runs in the top of the first inning.  Jake Swank (Portage, Pa.) doubled to left field, plating Larry Corle (Martinsburg, Pa.), who reached on a Becker fielding error.  Swank scored on a passed ball later in the inning.

The Eagles poured in three runs on three hits and one Hawk error in the bottom of the fifth inning to extend their lead to five.

Juniata's starting pitcher, Jack Dovidio (Glenmore, Pa.) went 5.1 innings and gave up just one Becker hit in his appearance on the mound – a single from Jose Martinez (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) to lead off the top of the sixth. 

Two more Eagle runs came in in the flip side of the inning on a Joshua Grey (Pottstown, Pa.) triple to left center, and another three were added in the bottom of the seventh.

The Hawks reached the board in the top of the seventh on an RBI single to left field from Ben Mazzone (Bristol, Conn.), who plated Michael McMahon (Canton, Mass.), who reached previously on a double.

A ninth inning rally for the Hawks came up short, as they plated four runs on three hits and two Eagle fielding errors.  RBI were awarded to Kevin Santiago (New Bedford, Mass.), Ross Audet (Swansea, Mass.), and Coby Hussey (Claremont, N.H.).

  • Dovido earned his first win of the season on the mound.
  • Adam Kipp (Mt. Wolf, Pa.) and Dakotah Snyder (Lewisburg, Pa.) led Juniata with two RBI each.
  • Three Eagles finished the game with two hits each – Isaac Mcclay (Belleville, Pa.), D. Snyder, and Ryan McClain (Hughesville, Pa.).
  • Becker's starting pitcher, Jack Snyder (Shrewsbury, Mass.) pitched six innings and allowed seven runs (three unearned) on nine hits and struck out three batters.
  • Corey Shea (West Boylston, Mass.) and Ed Greig (Nutley, N.J.) pitched in relief.  Shea gave up three runs on three hits, while Greig did not allowed a hit in his one inning pitched.
  • Becker's six hits were scattered amongst six players.

 

UP NEXT

Becker will return to the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex tomorrow (Mar. 10) to play against Olivet in a single game starting at 9:15 a.m.
