Davis breaks scoring record as Men's Basketball falls to Lions

LEICESTER, Mass. --- Senior guard Kareem Davis (Lowell, Mass. / St. John's) became the all-time leading scorer in the history of the Becker College men's basketball program for the NCAA era as the Hawks lost 78-67 against visiting Eastern Nazarene College in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action on Thursday night at the Leicester Gymnasium on the Becker campus in Leicester.

• Davis finished with 31 points, shooting 6-of-14 from behind the arc and 7-of-7 from the free throw line. The senior team captain entered the game with 1695 career points, needing just four to tie former Hawk great Samuel Durodola (Class of 2018) at 1699. Davis reached the mark on a layup with 9:45 to go in the first half, giving him 1700 career points at that mark. As of press time, Davis has 1726 career points.
• Junior forward Antonio White Jr. (Middletown, Conn. / Middletown) posted a strong performance with 18 points, eight rebounds and three steals.
• Sophomore Jamir Carr (Philadelphia, Penn. / Universal Audenried) chipped in with five points, five assists, four rebounds and two blocks.
• Senior guard Jayson Chavis (Waterbury, Conn. / Wilby) came off the bench to score nine points and dish out three assists.
• Collectively, Becker shot 40 percent from behind the arc, and 92.9 percent from the free throw line.

• Junior guard Garrett Crandell (Bristol, Tenn. / Bristol Tennessee) led Eastern Nazarene with 27 points and eight rebounds.
• Junior guard Noah Cheney (Bend, Ore. / Mountain View) finished with 13 points, four rebounds and three assists.
• Junior guard Josh Rice (Hanson, Mass. / Whitman-Hanson) added 11 points and four rebounds.
• Junior guard Andrew Mitchell (Campobello, S.C. / Riverside) finished with 10 points and six boards.
• Collectively, the Lions had a 40-31 advantage in rebounding, and a 20-14 advantage in free throw attempts,

• Eastern Nazarene got to the free throw line early and often, going up by nine with 13 minutes to go in the first half. Becker closed to within three several times before going into halftime trailing 37-33.
• In the second half, the Lions opened with a 15-4 run, going up by 15. Down by as much as 17, the Hawks rallied to pull within nine off a three by Davis with 8:23 to go. Ultimately, however, Eastern Nazarene made their shots down the stretch to put the game away.

The Hawks will be back on the court on Wednesday, January 30th when they travel to Mitchell College for a 6:00 p.m. game. The Lions will likewise be playing the Mariners of Mitchell in their next contest, that coming on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
