LEICESTER, Mass. --- Senior guard Kareem Davis (Lowell, Mass. / St. John's) of the Becker College men's basketball has been named the New England Collegiate Conference Player of the Week for the week ending February 17, 2019.
With the season hanging in the balance, Davis produced his most dominant week of the season, as he averaged 35 points per game with 6.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals and led the Hawks to back-to-back victories. The senior team captain shot 45.7 percent from the floor, 40 percent from behind the arc, and 85.7 percent from the line. In Wednesday's 85-79 home win over Elms College, Davis set a school record for free throws, going 19 of 22 from the line on his way to 32 points with five assists and four steals as he rallied Becker to victory. Then on Saturday at Newbury College, Becker's all-time leader in scoring poured in 38 points in a 115-92 route.
Becker would ultimately be edged by Newbury via tiebreaker for the sixth and final NECC playoff spot.
Davis would also be named the Becker College Athlete of the Week for the same period, and for the fourth time this season. On Tuesday, it was announced that he had been named the WACBA Player of the Week, as well.
Davis ends his career as Becker's all-time leading scorer since joining the NCAA, with 1876 points, far surpassing the previous record of 1699 career points set by Davis' former teammate, Samuel Durodola, at the end of the 2017-2018 season. In just his sophomore year, Davis led the Hawks to the 2017 NECC Championship, and was named the Tournament Most Valuable Player that season. In 2018, Davis was named All-NECC First Team as he led the Hawks back into the NECC finals, in the process becoming the 19th player in school history to reach 1000 career points. This year, Davis has been named the NECC Player of the Week four times, has been named Becker Athlete of the Week four times and set the school record for three-pointers made in a game with ten, surpassing his own record of nine.
Davis also holds school records in Career Three-pointers made (334), Career Free-Throws made (424), Career Free-Throw percentage (.878) and Career minutes (4063). He also came within three assists of tying the career assists record with 366.
Congratulations to Kareem and the rest of the team on the conclusion of their season.
