Ribeiro’s monster night sees Men's Hoops surge past Cougars

LEICESTER, Mass. --- Junior forward Mateus Ribeiro (Sao Paulo, Brazil / Colegio Pedroso e Oliveira) scored a career-high 22 points with a career-high 15 rebounds as the Becker College men's basketball team prevailed 69-54 over visiting Clark University on Tuesday evening in a matchup of crosstown rivals at the Leicester Gymnasium on the campus of Becker College in Leicester.

TURNING POINT

  • Trailing for much of the first half, Becker ended the period on an 11-0 run to tie the game at 33-33 going into halftime. Sparked by a steal-happy defense, the Hawks went on a 12-0 run early in the second period, capped off by a fast-break layup from junior forward Jamir Carr (Philadelphia, Penn. / Universal Audenried) just 3:39 into the half to go ahead 45-35. Becker continued to dominate the rest of the game, increasing their lead to as much as 20.

FOR THE HAWKS OF BECKER

  • Ribeiro shot 8-of-15 from the floor and five-of-six from the line. His 22 points eclipse the 20 he scored just last Monday against Fitchburg State; his previous career-high.
  • Sophomore guard Mekhi Chester (East Orange, N.J. / East Orange Campus) came off the bench to score 14 points with four steals and three assists.
  • Carr dished out five assists to complement his 13 point / six rebound performance, shooting six-of-ten from the floor.
  • Junior forward Guney Kilitcioglu (Istanbul, Turkey / The Koc School) missed a double-double by one point with nine points and ten boards. Those ten rebounds represented a career-high.               
  • Becker dominated the boards, outrebounding Clark 57-30.

FOR THE COUGARS OF CLARK

  • Clark junior guard Biko Gayman (Fort Pierce, Fla. / Lincoln Park Academy) led the Cougars with 15 points, five assists and five steals.
  • Sophomore guard Joel Arteaga (Wyncote, Pa. / Abington Friends School) added seven points and five rebounds.
  • Sophomore guard Zackary Mittelstadt (Wilton, Maine / Gould Academy) added seven points, four rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks.

UP NEXT
The Hawks are back on the court on Thursday when they play host to Anna Maria College in yet another matchup of Worcester county opponents, that tipping off at 7:00 p.m. The Cougars travel to Framingham State for their next contest, that coming on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
