Men's Hoops falls to NEC in conference showdown

HENNIKER, N.H. --- The Becker College men's basketball team lost 80-67 at New England College on Wednesday evening in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action at the Bridges Gymnasium in Henniker, New Hampshire.

FOR THE HAWKS OF BECKER

  • Becker junior forward Jamir Carr (Philadelphia, Penn. / Universal Audenried) led the Hawks with 13 points, nine rebounds, five assists and three steals.
  • Junior forward Mateus Ribeiro (Sao Paulo, Brazil / Colegio Pedroso e Oliveira) pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds with eight points and five assists.
  • Freshman guard Jamal Grant (Amelia, Va. / Amelia Academy) exploded off the bench for a career-high 13 points in just 12 minutes of playing time to go along with a pair of steals.
  • Freshman forward Terrance Edwards (New Haven, Conn. / New Haven Academy) posted one of his best performances of the season, scoring nine points and pulling down eight boards.

FOR THE PILGRIMS OF NEC

  • NEC senior guard Izaiah Winston-Brooks (Roxbury, Mass. / Brighton) led all scorers with 23 points, shooting 9-of-15 from the floor.
  • Junior guard Kareem Octavien (Cambridge, Mass. / Cambridge, Rindge & Latin) finished with 15 points on 50 percent shooting.

TURNING POINT

  • Octavien hit a big three-pointer for NEC just before halftime to put the Pilgrims up 41-36 going into the break. A 10-4 run early in the second gave the hosts a buffer the Hawks proved unable to overcome.   

UP NEXT
The Hawks are back on the court on Saturday when they host Elms College in a 1:00 p.m. game.
