Hawks Shutout in Non-Conference Loss at Fitchburg State

FITCHBURG, Mass. –  A four-goal first period for the Fitchburg State Falcons was only the start of a 7-0 win over the Becker Hawks on Wednesday night in non-conference play.

GAME SUMMARY

The Falcons opened the scoring 3:16 into the game with sophomore Ryan Murphy (Wayzata, Minn.) creating a takeaway in the Hawks defensive zone. Murphy skated in from the left corner and followed his rebound to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead.

Two goals in quick succession put the Falcons ahead 3-0. Freshman Hunter Fortin (Westville, Ohio) fired a wrister over the glove of Hawks senior goalie Cody Foster (Saugus, Calif.) to make it 2-0, followed by Chris Vicario (Cranston, R.I.) scoring on a breakaway to make it 3-0.

Sophomore Mitch El-Wailli (New Prague, Minn.) finished off the four-goal period with his first of the season for a 4-0 lead.

The Falcons added two goals in the second period before Murphy finished the scoring in the third for a 7-0 win.

  • Murphy finished with a two goals and two assists giving him 10 goals and eight assists for 18 points, all team-highs.
  • Junior Brian McGrath (Worcester, Mass.) stopped 33 shots for the Falcons for the shutout and his sixth win of the season.

The Hawks will travel to Nichols College on Saturday for a 4:40 p.m. start. The Falcons host the Vikings of Salem State on Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
