Hawks Shutout at Endicott in Saturday CCC Tilt

BEVERLY, Mass.  –  Gulls senior James Winkler (York, Maine) scored a program-record five goals with three assists for a program-record eight points as the Endicott Gulls defeated the Becker Hawks 15-0 on Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference play.

GAME SUMMARY

Winkler and the Gulls needed just 1:03 to get on the board as a hooking minor for Becker set up a power-play goal for Winkler, the first of a program-record six total power-play goals for the Gulls.

The Gulls added two more goals at the end of the period over a stretch of 1:05 by junior Jake Simons (Coral Springs, Fla.) and freshman Noah Strawn (Wareham, Mass.) to lead 3-0 after one period.

Winkler wasn't just effective on the power-play for Endicott as he made it 4-0 on a shorthanded goal at 3:17 of the second period, his second of the game.

Now 5-0, Winkler finished off his hat trick with a power-play goal at 8:02, giving the Gulls a 6-0 lead. Endicott added three more tallies in the final 7:24 to lead 9-0 through two periods.

Endicott posted another six goals in the third, including Winkler scoring the final goal of the game, finishing off the 15-0 scoreline.

 

FOR THE HAWKS

  • Sophomore Caleb Labrie (Greene, Maine) led the team with five shots on goal. Senior Tyler Forest (Simi Valley, Calif.) had four shots on target.
  • Senior Grant Martens (Bloomington, Minn.) made the start for the Hawks and falls to 0-6-0 with the loss.

 

FOR THE GULLS

  • In total, Winkler finished with two power-play goals, two even strength goals, and one shorthanded goal.
  • Strawn and freshman Mitch Shaheen (North Andover, Mass.) both scored twice.
  • Sophomore goalie Elijah Harris (Haverhill, Mass.) led the Gulls with 20 saves.

 

UP NEXT

The Hawks return to action with a CCC home-and-home series with Salve Regina. Hawks host on Friday at 7:00 p.m. before a trip to Salve on Saturday at 8:00 p.m. The Gulls have a home-and-home with Western New England, hosting the Golden Bears on Friday followed by a road game on Saturday. Both games start at 7:00 p.m.
