Freshman attacker Matthew Guerin (East Longmeadow, Mass. / East Longmeadow) of the Becker College men's lacrosse team has been voted the New England Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Year for the 2018 season in an announcement by the NECC on Monday.
Guerin helped lead Becker to a 1-1 conference record, and the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament, as the Hawks would eventually reach the Championship game. He led all rookies in goals scored during the regular season with 23, good for fourth in the conference. He also finished the regular season tied for fifth in the conference in points with 29, also best among rookies. Guerin earned NECC Rookie of the Week honors three times (for weeks ending March 5, April 2 and April 16).
Also earning top NECC honors was sophomore goalkeeper Trey McMillen (Grapevine, Tex. / Grapevine), who was voted the Goalkeeper of the Year. McMillen logged more minutes in the net than any other conference goalkeeper in the regular season, starting all 14 games for Becker, and playing every minute in goal (844:00 total). He helped the Hawks to a 1-1 conference record, and the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament. McMillen helped the Hawks reach the Championship game, for which he was named to the All-Tournament team. In regular season play, McMillen made 192 saves with a 47.1 save percentage.
Joining Guerin and McMillen on the All-Conference team were seniors Blake Gordon (East Greenbush, N.Y. / LaSalle Institute) and Nicholas Mariano (Cranston, R.I. / Bishop Hendricken), as well as juniors Lewis Jaworski (Cambridge, Mass. / Cambridge Rindge & Latin) and Joseph Linnehan (Dedham, Mass. / Dedham).
Senior Cruz Desrochers (Malden, Mass. / Malden) was named to the Sportsmanship Team.
