PAXTON, Mass. - AMCATS freshman Hezekiah Adeyeye (Woonsocket, R.I.) made quite the impression in his first career game with a program-record five goals as the Anna Maria AMCATS defeated the Becker Hawks, 5-2, on Saturday afternoon at Anna Maria Field.
Adeyeye's five-goal performance broke a seven year record at Anna Maria, breaking the previous mark of four goals by one player in 2012.
Adeyeye got the scoring started in the 26th minute, the only goal of the first half, giving the AMCATS a 1-0 lead.
An explosive second half of scoring started with a header by Hawks junior Leemar Baptista (Brockton, Mass.) just after halftime, tying the game at 1-1.
The next three goals belonged to Adeyeye and Anna Maria, starting with a penalty kick score in the 50th minute to give the AMCATS a 2-1 edge. In minutes 55 and 61, Adeyeye outraced the Hawks defense to put Anna Maria up by three at 4-1.
Hawks sophomore Isaiah McCaskill (Springfield, Mass.) cut into the deficit just seconds later to pull Becker to within a pair.
But Adeyeye closed the thought of a comeback in the 66th minute with his fifth and final goal in the AMCATS 5-2 victory.
Anna Maria keeper, junior Jeffery Donahue (Rockland, Mass.) picked up the victory with a six-save afternoon. Hawks sophomore Sam Majewski (Warren, Mass.) takes the loss with six stops on the day.
Anna Maria moves to 1-0 while Becker drops to 0-1.
The Hawks are back in action next Wednesday for their home opener, a 6:00 p.m. match against Salem State University.
