Leopards Leap Past Women's Lacrosse

LEICESTER, Mass. – Wentworth Institute of Technology brought home a 20-14 win over Becker College in non-conference women's lacrosse action on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at Alumni field.  The win raises the Leopards record to 1-2, while the Hawks drop to 0-5.

It was a hard fought first half, as the two teams went neck-and-neck.  Becker took a 3-2 lead with 17:50 left in the half and held onto it for the next eight minutes, increasing their lead to two.  Wentworth then went on to score three straight goals, taking a 5-4 advantage.  The competition stayed hot as they finished out the half even keel, at 7-7.  Senior Pam Mudge (Hooksett, N.H.) contributed three goals and an assist in the last ten minutes of the half to help keep the Leopards in the game.

Wentworth came out of halftime firing, as they netted three goals before Becker was able to put one on the board. Each team proceeded to go on their share of runs, neither gaining too much ground on the other, until the last run.  With 13:09 left in the game, the Leopards went on a shooting spree, netting five unanswered goals, and never looked back.

Mudge led Wentworth with six goals and three assists.  Brooke Paradis (Pelham, N.H.), Amanda Dexter (Harvard, Mass.), and Brandie Holland (Lynn, Mass.) each contributed four goals for the Leopards.  Goalie Hayley Patton (Cranston, R.I.) earned the win with 17 saves on the day.

Victoria Belcher (Seekonk, Mass.) guided Becker with five goals and an assist, while Rachel Welling (Charlestown, N.H.) and Taryn Flebbe (Neptune, N.J.) supplied three goals apiece. Becker goal keeper Nikolle Storey (Cumberland, Maine) made seven saves in the loss.

Wentworth returns to the field when they host Elms College on Tuesday, March 15th at 7:00 p.m.  Becker resumes play on Monday, March 14th when they travel to Mt. St. Vincent at 4:00 p.m.
