Dery Scores Five to Lead Women's Soccer over Wheelock

BOSTON, MA – Sophomore forward Alycia Dery (Millville, Mass.) doubled her scoring output for the year with a season-high five goals and added a pair of assists to give her 12 points for the match to lead the Becker College women's soccer team in a 10-0 rout over host Wheelock College this afternoon to open the New England Collegiate Conference slate at Winsor Field in Boston, MA.  The Hawks extend their unbeaten streak to five straight matches and improve to 3-2-2 overall and 1-0-0 in conference action, while the Wildcats fall to 1-6-0 and 0-1-0.

Senior forward Caroline Plunkett (Belle Harbor, N.Y.) scored at the 22:34 mark of the first half on a feed from junior midfielder Rebecca D'Andrea (Cumberland, R.I.) for a 3-0 Becker lead.  The goal was the sixth of the season and 47th of Plunkett's career to move past Courtney Gawlik (1999-2002) as the Hawks' all-time leading goal scorer.

Plunkett assisted on Dery's first goal of the afternoon just 2:13 into the match for Becker, before Dery tallied an unassisted goal at 18:12 for a 2-0 Hawks' lead.  Dery's third goal gave Becker a 4-0 lead at the 27:02 mark.    Dery buried two more goals in the second half for the Hawks with the first score of the second stanza coming on a cross from junior midfielder Christina Boucher (Pawcatuck, Conn.) for a 7-0 lead at 53:46 and her fifth goal of the day and team-leading 10th of the season capping the scoring, courtesy of a helper from freshman defender Jesley Teixeira (New Bedford, Mass.) at 69:18 for a 10-0 cushion for the visitors.

D'Andrea netted her first goal of the season for Becker on a cross from sophomore midfielder Alyssa Bond (Thompson, Conn.) at 31:50 for a 5-0 margin, before freshman forward Emily Brown (Palatine Bridge, N.Y.) cashed in with her first collegiate goal on a feed from D' Andrea with 4:31 left in the first half.  The Hawks owned a 6-0 halftime lead.

Senior defender Alysha Giulietti (Uncasville, Conn.) struck for her first goal of the season when Dery played the ball to the back of the box and Giulietti lifted a shot from 25 yards out that found the back of the net for an 8-0 Becker lead at the 55:25 mark.  Bond also netted her first goal of the year for the Hawks, just over 10 minutes later, on an assist from Dery at 65:45 for a 9-0 advantage.

Sophomore keeper Kaitlyn Rose (North Attleboro, Mass.), freshman goalie Jillian Morong (Wenham, Mass.) and junior Melissa Rhodes (Mendon, Mass.) all combined on the shutout for the Hawks.  Rose made one save in the first half, while Morong stopped a shot in the first 25:27 of the second half and Rhodes turned away two shots in the final 19:33 of play.  Freshman Madeline Domingo (Newington, Conn.) made her collegiate debut in net for Wheelock and stopped three of seven shots in 31:50 of action, before yielding to junior Alyssa Collier (Trappe, Penn.), who denied one of seven shots that she faced in 58:10 of play.  Becker owned a 26-9 shot advantage.

The Wildcats will be in action again on Tuesday, September 25 when they travel to Buzzards Bay, MA to take on Massachusetts Maritime Academy at 7:00 p.m., while the Hawks host Eastern Nazarene at 4:00 p.m. on the same day.
