LEICESTER, Mass. – Hawks freshman Olivia Sherwood (Southington, Conn.) got her first career start and first career win and has been named the New England Collegiate Conference's Rookie of the Week, for the week ending on Sept. 8.
Sherwood's first career start came last Tuesday at Fitchburg State in a 3-1 win. The freshman goalie had the shutout insight before a late, second-half penalty kick broke up the scoreless day. Sherwood finished with eight saves in her first career win.
Last Saturday, Sherwood played the first half against Thomas, allowing no goals and making all four saves required in the first 45 minutes. Sherwood finished with a no-decision as the Hawks went on to win the game 3-2 in double overtime.
It's the first weekly award for Sherwood in her career, who finished the week with a GAA of 0.67 and a save percentage at .923. For the season, Sherwood is down to a 1.79 GAA and up to a .828 save percentage.
