Hawks Shutout on Saturday Afternoon, Fall 3-0 at Curry

MILTON, Mass. – Colonels sophomore Samantha Borges (Somerset, Mass.) scored twice for Curry College as the Colonels shutout the Becker Hawks, 3-0 on Saturday afternoon in non-conference play.

  • Becker finished the match with a 16-15 shot advantage but managed eight shots on goal to Curry's 10.
  • Senior Kyra Teixeira (Old Lyme, Conn.) and freshman Shannon O'Toole (Hamilton, Mass.) tied for a team-high with two shots on goal.
  • Freshman Olivia Sherwood (Southington, Conn.) played the first half, making three saves but surrendering two goals as she falls to 1-2-1 this season.
  • Sophomore Lyndsey Cobb-Wilkins (Elmira, N.Y.) played the second half for the Hawks making four saves in her 45 minutes.



  • Borges's two-goal afternoon gives her three goals on the season and her first game-winning goal. It's also the second two-goal game of her career.
  • Colonels sophomore Maddie Wilson (Millbury, Mass.) added a tally for Curry, her first goal of the season. Wilson also assisted on Curry's final goal of the match.
  • Junior Tayla Randall (Walpole, Mass.) added in assist for the Colonels, her second of the season.
  • Freshman Oliver Hutchinson (Scituate, Mass.) made eight saves for Curry, improving to 2-3 this season with her second career shutout.



The Colonels were on the board in the ninth minute with Borges's first goal of the match. Borges ran on to a ball at the top of the Hawks penalty box and fired a shot across her body, into the left-side netting, giving Curry a 1-0 edge.

Curry doubled their lead in the 22nd minute with Wilson's tally. A shot from nearly 20 yards out looped over Sherwood, giving the Colonels a 2-0 advantage.

Borges added her second goal of the game in the 51st minute. She was the beneficiary of a perfectly timed through ball behind the Hawks backline. Borges made no mistake on the breakaway, netting her second of the match for a 3-0 lead.



The Hawks are in the middle of a five-game road trip and return to action on Thursday afternoon with a 3:30 p.m. match at Nichols. Curry has a quick turnaround as they travel to Regis for a match at noon.
