Samboy broke through for the opening goal shortly after halftime. In the 52nd minute, the Bison forced a turnover near midfield and rushed into the counterattack.

Samboy first looked for a through ball but the pass was blocked and bounced to Roy. Samboy continued her run with Roy looping a perfect pass to her near the top of the penalty area. Samboy shot from 20 yards away, firing the ball past the onrushing keeper, freshman Olivia Sherwood (Southington, Conn.), for her second goal of the season, giving the Bison a 1-0 lead.

The Bison struck again in the 52nd minute with Samboy providing the assist on a goal by graduate student Meghan Dunn (Dudley, Mass.).

Off a corner kick, Samboy sent in an out-swinging cross to the head of Dunn from 10 yards out. The Hawks nearly cleared the ball off the line, but a deflection helped the ball bounce over the goal line as the Bison took a 2-0 lead. The goal for Dunn is her team-leading sixth of the season.

The Hawks answered back quickly, cutting the deficit in half in the 56th minute on the first goal of the season by sophomore Diana Whittier (Sutton, Mass.).

This time on a Hawks corner kick, freshman Shannon O'Toole (Hamilton, Mass.) crossed an in-swinging ball that found Whittier at the top of the six-yard box. She redirected the header into the side netting, leaving the Hawks down 2-1.

Roy closed the door on any thoughts of a comeback in the 74th minute thanks to her first goal of the season.

In a pocket of space 30 yards from goal, Roy curled a left-footed shot into the left side netting, past a diving Sherwood, re-establishing the Bison's two-goal advantage, now at 3-1.

Sherwood kept the Hawks in the match with two timely saves on opportunities by Samboy when the match was still 2-1.

Samboy nearly scored in the 60th minute but Sherwood stretched to make a save on a high shot. The ball broke through Sherwood's hands, but she was able to recover as the ball nearly crossed over the goal line.

Samboy was denied again in the 62nd minute with Sherwood making a reaction save as she charged off the goal line.

  • Whittier's goal is her first as a member of the Hawks program.
  • The assist by O'Toole is her first assist and point of her career.
  • Although allowing three goals and taking credit for the loss, Sherwood made seven saves on the afternoon in 75 minutes of play.

  • The win gives Nichols a five-game winning streak and an overall record of 6-1-0.
  • It's the first five-game winning streak for Nichols since 2010, a season in which they also started 6-1-0.
  • Dunn moves up to 14 points on the season, 10 more than any other Bison teammate.
  • Sophomore Olivia Marcantonio (North Smithfield, R.I.) made three saves and improves to 6-1-0 this season with the victory.
