CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Lesley Lynx offense exploded for six goals on the night, including a three-goal stretch in seven minutes as Lesley University defeated the Becker Hawks 6-0 in the New England Collegiate Conference opener on Saturday.

GAME SUMMARY

Lynx sophomore Tayla Mayberry (Kingston, Mass.) was on the board in the eighth minute with her third goal of the season. On a loose ball around 20 yards out, Mayberry lobbed a shot into the right-side netting, giving the Lynx a 1-0 lead.

The three-goal outburst came toward the end of the first half, starting in the 35th minute that gave Lesley a 2-0 lead. Sophomore Chloe Kouyoumdjian (La Canada, Calif.) scored on a cross from the left side.

In the 39th minute, sophomore Claire Hounslow (Westborough, Mass.) scored her second of the season off a cross from a corner kick, giving the Lynx a 3-0 edge.

A 42nd minute goal by freshman Alex Carruth (Torrance, Calif.) gave the Lynx a 4-0 lead on her first goal of the year.

Lesley would add two more in the second half on goals by Hounslow and freshman Calli Masters (West Linn, Ore.) en route to the 6-0 Lynx victory.

 

FOR THE HAWKS

  • Senior Kyra Teixeira (Old Lyme, Conn.) and sophomore Kristen Beidleman (Holliston, Mass.) both finished with one shot on goal.
  • Sophomore Lyndsey Cobb-Wilkins (Elmira, N.Y.) finished with a team-high three saves in just over 37 minutes.
  • Freshman Olivia Sherwood (Southington, Conn.) made two saves and goes to 2-4-1 this season.

 

FOR THE LYNX

  • Kouyoumdjian's goal is her team-leading four of the season for the Lynx.
  • Hounslow's pair of goals is the first two-goal game of the career.
  • Junior Jill Narby (Huntington, N.Y.) made one save, claiming the win to move to 2-0-0.

Both teams go back to out of conference in their next match. Becker plays their fourth straight road game on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. against MCLA. Lesley travels to Emerson on Tuesday for a 6:00 p.m. match.
