Sherwood Shuts Down Opponents, Named NECC Rookie of the Week

Hawks freshman Olivia Sherwood

LEICESTER, Mass. - Hawks freshman Olivia Sherwood (Southington, Conn.) etched her name into the record books for the Women's Soccer program and has been recognized by the New England Collegiate Conference as their Rookie of the Week, for the week ending on Oct. 6. It's the second time this season Sherwood has been named the NECC's Rookie of the Week.

Sherwood became the first freshman in the history of the women's soccer program to post wins in three consecutive matches without allowing a goal. Only Class of 2019 graduate Jordyn Martel has had three consecutive shutout wins for the program in the last 10 seasons.

Sherwood made a total of seven saves over three games on the week in victories over Eastern Nazarene, Fisher, and Dean. The perfect week of games dropped Sherwood's goals against average from 2.32 to 1.67 and increased her save percentage by two points to 80 percent.

The Hawks look for their fourth win in a row as they travel to Mass Maritime on Tuesday night for a 7:00 p.m. match. Becker returns to NECC play on Oct. 12 with a 2:30 p.m. match at New England College.
