LEICESTER, Mass.- Becker College fell to Newbury College 3-1 in New England Collegiate Conference women's volleyball action Tuesday evening. The win lifts the Nighthawks record to 12-6 (2-0 NECC), while the Hawks fall to 4-14 (1-1 NECC).
Newbury captured the first set 25-19, before Becker took the second set 25-23. The Nighthawks secured the win by taking the final two sets, 25-20 and 25-15.
Newbury was paced by sophomore Courtney Banks (Corona, Calif.) with a game high 21 kills. Lina Miranda (Brockton, Mass.) chipped in with 16 kills, while Maya Umoren (Quincy, Mass.) added 11 kills and a .280 hitting percentage. Heather Parish (Tucson, Ariz.) fed the Nighthawks with 51 assists.
Becker sophomore Marissa Turner (Coventry, R.I.) led the Hawks with ten kills. Kirsti Hadzewycz (Daytona Beach, Fla.) added eight kills, while senior Danielle Robbie (Bellingham, Mass.) finished with seven kills and a game high hitting percentage of .350. Charlene Landry (Gorham, Maine) provided 22 assists in the loss.
Becker returns to the court on Thursday, October 9 when they travel to Anna Maria at 7:00 p.m. Newbury will continue New England Collegiate Conference play on Saturday, October 11 when they travel to Daniel Webster at 1:00 p.m.
